Please join us at 5:30 pm March 1, 2012, at the Wilda Marston Theater, Loussac Library in Anchorage in a ceremony to honor these women.
The mission of the Alaska Women's Hall of Fame is to celebrate the women who have shaped Alaska.

The Alaska Women's Hall of Fame is a collaborative project of the Zonta Club of Anchorage, the Alaska Women's Network, YWCA Anchorage, the Alaska Women's Political Caucus, the Anchorage Women's Commission, the University of Alaska Anchorage and a large number of interested Alaska women. Together they have created a web-based virtual hall to honor women who have made significant contributions in any discipline or field of endeavor in Alaska. The first women so honored, from throughout the state, were inducted into the Hall of Fame in March, 2009. Visit the website to review their names and histories and learn how to nominate outstanding women you know.

AARP Alaska

“To serve, not to be served.” This is AARP’s motto, articulated by our founder, Ethel Percy Andrus (1884-1967), and we proudly carry it forward.

AARP's VISION: A society in which everyone ages with dignity and purpose, and in which AARP helps people fulfill their goals and dreams. AARP MISSION: AARP is dedicated to enhancing quality of life for all as we age. We lead positive social change and deliver value to members through advocacy, service, and information.

AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan social welfare organization with a membership that helps people 50+ have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them and society as a whole. AARP does not endorse candidates for public office or make contributions to either political campaigns or candidates.

We produce AARP The Magazine, the definitive voice for 50+ Americans and the world's largest-circulation magazine with over 35.1 million readers; AARP Bulletin, the go-to news source for AARP's millions of members and Americans 50+; AARP VIVA, the only bilingual U.S. publication dedicated exclusively to the 50+ Hispanic community; and our website, AARP.org.

AARP Foundation is an affiliated charity that provides security, protection, and empowerment to older persons in need with support from thousands of volunteers, donors, and sponsors. We have staffed offices in all 50 states (Alaska, of course!), the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The research “arm” of AARP – a relatively unknown area rich in resources AARP’s Public Policy Institute (PPI) is the focal point of public policy analysis and development at the Association. PPI's staff works to design policies that have a significant impact on improving economic security, health care and quality of life. PPI frequently convenes leading policy experts for discussion of key national and state policy issues. In addition, staff provide critical research and analytical support for AARP advocacy efforts and campaigns at the state and federal level. Click here for PPI's 2010 Annual Report

The Consumer Team conducts research and policy analysis, and brings together thought leaders to develop and advance AARP’s public policy agenda on consumer protection. The team focuses on critical marketplace practices and regulatory developments that affect financial services and literacy, credit practices, fraud and deceptive practices, energy and telecommunications, and advance planning issues such as guardianship and powers of attorney.

The Economic Team analyzes and develops policies related to the economy and its impact on financial security, particularly security in retirement. Key research topics include:
•Solvency of the Social Security program and the adequacy of benefits for low-income retirees;

•Adequacy and coverage of workplace pensions;

•Individual retirement saving, managing assets in retirement, and the income of older Americans;

•Supplemental Security Income and other programs to protect low-income families and retirees;

•Workplace flexibility, training, age discrimination and other issues related to the older workforce; and

•Equity and efficiency of tax policies and the adequacy of tax revenues.

The Health Team conducts research and policy analysis, and brings together thought leaders to develop and advance AARP’s public policy agenda on health care. The team examines critical public policy issues that affect access to health care services, quality and safety, cost of care and public health. Our goal is to foster sound and creative solutions that meet the health care challenges of an aging society and to inform state and national policymakers, opinion leaders, researchers, program planners and administrators.

The Livable Communities and Long-Term Care Team focuses on expanding consumer access and choice to an array of affordable long-term care options, with an emphasis on improving home and community-based services, supporting family caregivers, and making communities more livable. State-specific data can be found here.

And if you just want to play a game, you can do that too!
